What happened
I found a company with a lot of good Trustpilot reviews. I contracted them to do some work and they totally botched it (work incomplete, work below standard, demanding extra money to complete quoted work, then 'did a runner' when I explained the difference between a quote and an estimate). I wrote off my losses and left a negative - but polite and factual) review of them on Trustpilot. They complained to trustpilot, trustpilot removed my review and refused to reinstate it. Trustpilot apparently makes its money from the companies that pay it to be listed. Positive (real or fake) reviews are never removed, negative ones are quickly removed at the companies request.
What I wish had happened
Trustpilot doing what they advertise they do - and listing factual reviews - rather than being a puppet for their paymasters.
