What happened

I went to Morrisons today recommended by a friend for there wine store, I thought great I’ve got my dad coming over to see me tonight cooking him dinner & we can have a great wine as he loves his wine. The place came recommended so I thought I would definitely pick one up there maybe try something different. I haven’t seen my dad for awhile so was really looking forward to him coming round. My dad rung me whilst I was at the supermarket and we we’re having a catch up on a few family matters as we haven’t recently caught up. Whilst I was shopping down the wine isle I couldn’t make up my mind what to pick and as I had my dad on the phone I couldn’t really concentrate on what to pick, I didn’t think I was in a rush so thought I’d speak to my dad and hang around the wine isle so I could then pick one after I got of the phone to him. I could see a security guard walk pass me, I didn’t think anything of it and some time had passed I was still on the phone to my dad and then as I was walking back and forth over a few bottles I liked but couldn’t chose, I saw the security guard standing behind me just looking at me. This was very odd, so I ignored it for awhile then turned around and he was still there. This was making me feel very uncomfortable as if he suspects I’m doing something wrong. So I turned around and looked at him (still on the phone to my dad) and he started to walk of to the end of the isle and then turned around to continue to watch me again. So I stopped looking for a wine and just stared right back to the guy, he was trying to look else where and moved slightly but he still continued to give me a vibe he didn’t trust me. He stayed where he was and was not moving until I moved which I found very odd. I am a customer trying to decide what to buy and I am taking my time to make a decision. I would think there was nothing wrong with that but I was under the impression that for him it was. As a store with lots of security I was surprised to see this. Even the isle itself had a security TV so not sure what he was doing other than making me very uncomfortable like I didn’t want to be there let alone shop there. I wanted to put back my shopping out of principal that if they can have there staff make customers feel this uncomfortable and I haven’t done anything wrong it’s not a very nice place to be. Disappointing as this place came recommended, I feel like this situation is something I will be telling everyone and not some where I’d recommend. I’m very aware that there are questionable characters but I am a professional 37yr old wearing smart clothes that your security guard thinks that I am untrustworthy to not be left alone down a wine isle and to monitor my movements so close to my vicinity. As the store has so much security I would expect they monitor this on the screens and certainly be more tactful around people. I think this individual needs to be spoken to about this so this doesn’t upset anyone else going forward. Staff working at a facility can really influence customers from coming back.

What I wish had happened

I should have been allowed to shop without a chaperone, or at least been monitored from a distance if this individual felt I was doing something wrong. That way I wouldn’t have been made to feel uncomfortable. I should have been left on my own and allowed to carry on about my business he would’ve seen I was not doing something wrong. If I was doing something wrong he would soon have been aware of it due to the security gates ect but I wasn’t.
