What happened
Hi All, I just wanted to share an incident that happened tonight in Morrisons in Ealing Broadway that left me disturbed and extremely humiliated… I shop there everyday usually after my evening gym session. At the hours the guys are us usually busy with restocking. I always try to be very considerate and not to be the last customer as I know they also want to go home. I picked few things and paid and recall that I wanted to grab one more item. It was 3 min to closing so I rushed to the back of the store but the item was out of stock so quickly walked to the entrance and I got stoped by the one of security guys. He literally pulled the plastic bag from my hand. And he asked me to leave. Shocked I removed my earpiece as I was listening to the music . I was disoriented and shocked. They asked me for receipt - I had it in my hand but I folded in it a chewing gum. He was insisting so I opened it- and said i was about to bin it. He even didn’t look into it and said - that is not the receipt. Honestly I don’t check receipts - and I was so shocked I started to shout why they stopped me in the rude manners pointing fingers on me, askign me to leave trying to remove the bag from my hands. There was another guy literally run to where I was standing. I asked them how they assumed that I didn’t pay..? They pointed on a lady that was coming to us. I remember her name because she seemed to be always nice, and I always say hi and bye when I’m leaving. She came to me and stated that I didn’t pay. I was so shocked that I nodded turned red and started to apologise… i thought maybe something wrong were on the till and I didn’t notice ..I had a long day… I was tired…she asked me if I want to pay, and I said yes of course… but then when I approached the tills I remembered how much I paid and in which till. And I told them. I show her my bank statement transaction. It was not enough. She eventually printed the receipt. And she still questioning me- did you buy blueberries? I asked her to check the bag herself …she barely apologise- it was like so hard to say sorry. Oh my Lord. Can you imagine a late evening when you just on your phone and doing last shopping and this happens. At the end I realised I left my iPhone earpieces somewhere and wanted to go back to the till to check if they were there- the security men didn’t want me to go. I had to insist. Eventually I found them in the bin accidentally threw them with the receipt. I can’t explain you how awful they made me feel. And I’m the one that never took a carrier bag for free …I actually felt like crying. I don’t need to say I won’t be back there even if I have to starve… luckily there is many shops around. But on serious note absolutely awful end of the day As a consumer I feel volnurable and humiliated and without any rights - but I guess this is the place where rough shopping is a norm. So I’m going. To support small local shops from now on.
What I wish had happened
If they doubted the payment they could stop me in more polite manners asking for receipt. Also the apology didn’t feel genuine. Moreover the security guys are aggressive and absolutely below any standards.
