What happened
I entered the store to purchase 3 x bottles of Sainsbury’s gin @ £22 each , these were for my disabled father-in-law. I made my way to the self checkout and put the bottles through the checkout straight away, as I have done this before I was aware that I would require the tags removed and authorisation. The self check-out area was quiet apart from two members of Sainsbury’s staff who were standing at the checkout next to me . I waited for staff to appear as there was 3 other members of Sainsbury’s staff behind me working at the end of the shelves. All of these were in deep conversations between themselves, the two members of staff beside me - the male was purchasing items and his female collage was putting the items through for him , they were also in deep conversation about shifts etc. I turned a few times but nobody took me on despite the RED warning light flashing. After standing a good few minutes the female staff member next me then came over to do the authorisation and as she did the checkout denied this as it turned 8pm. We both checked our phones and it showed 8pm exactly. I was told that they could not change this as the tills switch off. However I made the point to the staff that I was standing nearly 10minutes. The staff member acknowledged that I had been waiting however replied “ I can’t be at two places at once” I am regular customer at Sainsbury’s sometimes visiting twice a day shopping for my family and also my father-in-law. As you can see from my nectar account No - 9826300062551301019. I have recently also took out a credit card with Sainsburys and also purchased house insurance. I understand that there is a cut off point at 8pm, however my complaint is that I was well within that time when I went to the till, the way I was spoken too and the staff who were in close vicinity who failed to notice me and more concerned about there conversation. At this time the store was quiet. I am sure that CCTV is in the area which would show where I was and the close proximity of the 5 staff. What I wish had happened
That staff pay more attention to what is going on around them and the attitude towards me was very unprofessional
