A customer experience about Morrisons

What happened

We were treated like criminals before even given the chance to explain. Went to Morrisons this evening with my 4 year old daughter and Husband- went about shopping as normal and used self service at the end where the service was slow, even though it’s meant to be express checkout. With my partner packing the bags and everything else going on he paid using contactless (or so he thought) grabbed the receipt and off we went to the car, I’m currently 8 months pregnant and have sciatica so can’t walk fast at all, my partner was at the car putting my daughter in and the shopping and that’s when I had a security guard approach me asking if I’d used self service- I of course said yes as we had and that’s when he basically said you’ve walked out the store without paying, my partner checked his receipt and realised it was from the person before and the beep from the contactless machine must of come from the checkout next to us, he was happy to come back in and pay but what angered us both was the way the security guard handled the situation making us feel belittled and like criminals- does he honestly think we had intended to walk out without paying when I can barely walk never mind run off with unpaid shopping, it was a genuine mistake that my husband did come back in and pay but what was more frustrating was the manager that came to diffuse the situation after my partner was frustrated at how he was treated by the security guard however all the manager did was escalate the situation by saying well done to the security guard “we don’t want people like this in our store!!!!” I am absolutely disgusted he felt it appropriate to say that to a customer that had came back into pay after making a genuine mistake. I work at M&S and I would never allow any of my staff to comment or treat a customer like we were treated and I especially wouldn’t say to a paying customer we don’t want people like you shopping at our store it’s absolutely uncalled for and I most certainly will not be shopping at that Morrisons ever again and will now just use my local Tesco, Lidl and Aldi.

What I wish had happened

I wish That we were approached in a nice manner and asked if the security guard was able to check our receipt as the payment on the machine hadn’t gone through. I also would of appreciated for the store manager to of come out and apologised for the misunderstanding rather then making the situation worst by making such a rude and uncalled for comment that made the situation much worse then what it should of been. I think if the manager handled the situation differently I wouldn’t be making this complaint.
