What happened

In March 2019 I found a property via website Airbnb. It was a 3bed house in Barbados for duration 17th Dec2019- 16 Jan 2020, I paid for it and confirmed booking dates with the Host. 2wks before our holiday I contacted the Host as a courtesy to confirm the time we would be checking in- she told me I still owed a further $820 even though I had paid it all in full in March, so I provided the proof and she brushed it off saying she had a very busy life. We arrived at the accommodation and the Rep was unaware of our booking, the house was under maintenance with a broken toilet, 2 broken hand basins, out of service cooker, the waste pipe from the washing machine had been cemented into the wall so that the dirty water could empty out openly into the shower cubicle, infested with cockroaches, bed bugs- filthy and Windows were not lockable, not secure at all, didnt close properly and some didnt even have curtains, the curtains they did have up were worn and torn. I informed the Host, who told us to leave her home. We were in her house no more than 9hrs,as we had nowhere else to go, before She made us homeless (my children and me). Airbnb refused to refund me or re-house me, so I had to spend our spending money to stay at a hotel for 2nights before securing a different property. As all our spending money was spent on alternative accommodations, I had to borrow money from the UK to enable us to use public transport and buy food. Our holiday was ruined, my health suffered drastically and it was highly traumatic for us all. I have contacted Airbnb numerous times- they are now ignoring me- I STILL have not recieved a refund for all the money I have lost. And I am now trying to keep my head above water as not only have I lost aprox £2,000 through Airbnb lack of good customer care, service, filtering process, and upkeep of policies, The extra money I used to cover us over there was already put aside for my bills and so now, I am completely on my face and having to survive on cups of tea, so that my children can eat.. as All my income is doing is covering my bills..meanwhile Airbnb and the Host get away with theft and fraud.

What I wish had happened

I would have like it if Airbnb had stuck to their word on their website, and either re-housed us or given us an immediate refund so that we could find somewhere else to stay. But Airbnb left us Homeless, They left us Penniless and they were Totally aware of the situation and had proof to justify the cause of action.
